ABSTRACT
Market liberalization and change of our consumption patterns
are the causes of wastes proliferation in the world. The international
community through the Stockholm and the Rio Declarations invited States to put
in place an adequate legal framework for a better protection of the
environment. In the domain of waste, the Basel and Bamako conventions have
strengthened the legal arsenal that already existed. Cameroon, long under the
administration of France, inherited its legal tradition of waste management. In
this regard, its legal system has many similarities with the French legal
system; however, the two systems have characteristics that differentiate them.
Far to be perfect, the legal systems of waste management in France and Cameroon
have shortcomings. Also, the implementation of an effective policy against
waste faces obstacles. In this context, measures should be taken in order to
make waste management more efficient in both countries.
Key words: Environment, Wastes, France,
Cameroon.
