Executive summary
During this study whose titles « Knowledge, attitudes and
practis of pupils o alcoholism in Goma» we have identified the level of
know,attitudes and practis of pupils during and after courses on aloholism.
To tackle this study; we asked ourselves the following
questions:
1. What would be the level of pupils knowledge on alcoholic
drinks effects health and in sosciety?
2. What could be the pupils attitude on alcoholc drink?
3. . What could be the the frequency of drinking alcoholic
drinks to pupils of Goma commune?
The study was a transverse descriptive type based on
quantitative data. Then we made hypotheses in order to give temporary answer to
questions above mentioned as follows
1. Pupils of secondary school in Goma Commune would have
sufficient level of knowledge on different alcoholic drinks, health and socio
psychological effects;
2. The secondary school pupils' attitudes would be positive
at alcoholic drinks;
3. The practice of (the use of) alcoholic drinks by the
pupils would be less frequent.
The sample was at 347 pupils randomly chosen. To collect
data, have used a questionnaire of investigation given to pupils according to
select institution from proportion but also basing on frequency list of pupils
regularly registered. A questionnaire was handed in individually to each
inquired and after colleted by ourselves.
The following techniques were used for the choice of sample
selection. Concerning the choice of sample in stratum of secondary schools we
took school having 100 total numbers of pupils. The school population is made
of the first until sixth form. The 16 school either 44% of the total of Goma
Commune secondary schools have a total numbers of levels at 7718 or 79%. The
rest of schools having less than 100 pupils have not been taken into account.
We took the frequency lists in each class room for the selection of the sample
proceeded by the combined simple random sample to stratified sample by making
drawing lists pupils serving taking pair numbers in each class room. For the
having number to inquire per class room, we took the number of inquired that we
divided into six class.
The seizure, the treatment and analysis of data were
respectively done in favour of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and SPSS. The
main results got related to hypotheses of the research are the following:
The respondent affirms that 81.6% know the harm due to
alcohol; 67.1% has already heard speak alcohol effects. To assess their
knowledge related to that harm, traumatism is said at 27.4%; the cirrhosis of
the liver at 29.9% the mental trouble at 54.2% and the insults at 50.1%. Openly
at the use results the level of knowledge is insufficient on health and socio
psychological effects.
To pupils, the attitudes at alcoholic are negative 79. 5% of
pupils ignore alcoholic drink effects because their perception is wrong because
of lack of exact information.
The think forgetting their problem with alcohol, 58.2% think
that alcohol excite warm the body, at 59.1% think of sexual abilities 93.7% of
pupils declare that it is not good to take alcoholic drink, 33.7% of
respondents abstain drinking while 81.8% want to give up the practice of
drinking alcoholic drink.
For the practice occasions are multiples for pupils to use
alcoholic drinks. Then, in this study 50.4% of respondents declare that
alcoholic drinks are given school during ceremonies, 58.8% take at least one
measure per occasion.
Moreover, 60.5% drink with their friends, 59.2% buy at shop
or gloceries. While 42.6% drink without knowing, 15.5% declare that alcoholic
drinks are cheap and are free received.
We concluded for those results that knowledge is sufficient
on different alcoholic drinks, however pupils have insufficient knowledge.
On the cause of alcoholic drink effects. There is a different
attitude concerning position of pupils on alcoholic drinks. Regarding to
practice; pupils content with taking cheap alcoholic drink. Some alcoholic
drinks covered in plastics are easy to manipulate by drinker pupils of
alcoholic drink hiding them either in their pockets or in the school bags.
Then we recommend:
The Government of Democratic Republic of
Congo
- Favour an efficient program on school Health
- Set down educative programmes from childhood to inform young
alcohol drink consequences on health in the family and in the society.
- Ask the producers to put instructions on covers as Alcohol
is harmful to Health.
- Forbid advertisement of alcoholic drinks on media.
- Set down an efficient mechanism and regulation to produce
them, to sell and to bay them in details.
- Punish pupils who take alcoholic drinks at school.

secondary and Primary Teaching
- To integrate notions of misdemeanour pf alcoholic drinks in
the lesson of education for life;
Pupils
Because secondary school pupils are future
leaders of the country, we recommend them to:
- abstain and give up consummation of alcoholic drinks
- to inform themselves on problems caused by those alcoholic
drinks in the community
- They have current effects which can be observed in the
future at the level of health and at the socio economic level.

- To make a study on factors which cause pupils to drink
alcoholic drinks?
To Non Government Organisations and Associations
- Take care of giving sufficient information on alcohol and
its problems in order to make pupils responsible as future leaders.
- Multiply sessions of sensitizing related to alcoholic
drinks.
To Parents
To bring a moral support in order to have
collaboration between school and families in relation with alcoholic drinks.
