ABSTRACT
The construction sector in Côte d'Ivoire is struggling
to develop due to frequent project failures. These failures are usually due to
mismanagement and non-application of project management principles. planning,
risk management etc ... This field therefore has an imminent need for research
in order to guarantee the success of its projects. With this in mind, we have
chosen construction companies as our field of study because, on the one hand,
our personal experience in construction was a great asset for the success of
the research we undertook; and on the other hand, construction stakeholders in
Côte d'Ivoire expressed the urgent need to acquire tools or methods
likely to enable them to significantly improve project management. It is on the
basis of these important considerations that the theme of our research concerns
the success factors in the management of construction projects. Several
writings (Slevin and Pinto, 1989; Cookes-davies, 2001; Ika 2005) focus on the
key success factors in project management. The analysis of these writings
suggests, at first glance, that the success factors in project management vary
according to the nature of the project. To carry out this study, we did a
qualitative study. From our study, we realized that some of these factors have
similarities. The success factors in the management of development projects and
those of construction projects are an illustration of this. This is perfectly
understandable since, in general, construction projects are, above all,
development projects. As for the degree of importance of the success factors,
Slevin and Pinto (1989) consider that the latter changes from one phase to
another. From this, we have taken care to identify the most important success
factors in construction project management during the different phases of the
project life cycle. This brief ends with some recommendations that we have made
while hoping that they might encourage practitioners to improve the way they
manage construction projects.
