This study examines the
epidemiological, clinical and prognostic profile of adolescent deliveries at
Kyeshero Hospital.
Given this constant, the study would like to answer the following
general question:
What is the epidemiological profile of adolescent deliveries at
Kyeshero Hospital?
And as specific questions:
1. How many deliveries were registered to adolescents during the
period from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2017 at Kyeshero Hospital?
2. What is the prevalence of complications related to teen
births?
a. How many vaginal deliveries?
b. What was the rate of caesarean section?
c. Are episiotomies performed?
3. What is the prognosis of the mother-child relationship after
childbirth?
In carrying out this study to identify the epidemiological,
clinical and prognostic profiles of adolescent deliveries at Kyeshero Hospital,
we have pre-established the following assumptions:
v Out of 10 deliveries at Kyeshero Hospital, 4 deliveries were
reported to be adolescent girls, 75% of whom were 13 to 15 years old.
v At least 10 deliveries would be registered in the teenage month
at Kyeshero Hospital.
v The prevalence is 1% among teenage girls
v The caesarean section rate for this category is 75%, ie 3 out
of 4 teenage girls undergo caesarean section.
v Episiotomies would be systematic in these subjects given the
immaturity and lack of experience.
v The prognosis of the mother-child after childbirth would be
poor as the majority of these adolescent girls carry illegitimate pregnancies
and are victims of sexual violence
In view of this, this study has set itself as a general
objective:
v Conduct an epidemiological, clinical study and determine the
prognosis of adolescent childbirth at Kyeshero Hospital.
v The specific objectives that this study has set itself are:
v Describe the epidemiological profile of adolescent girls at
Kyeshero Hospital, Goma N-K
v Determine the frequency of teen deliveries at Kyeshero
Hospital, Goma N-K
v Describe the clinical aspects of teen pregnancy in Kyeshero
Hospital, Goma N-K
v Determine the foeto-maternal prognosis of adolescent deliveries
at Kyeshero Hospital, Goma N-K
For this scientifically acceptable work we have resorted to a
descriptive and retrospective study.
To collect the data, a harvest sheet was submitted to the
consultation register, patient cards and partogram, antenatal consultation
notebooks, register of operating rooms and operating protocols. These data were
entered using Word software and processed on SPSS. After processing, analyzing
and interpreting the data, we came to the following conclusion:
v 27 deliveries were made to adolescent girls in Kyeshero with a
prevalence of 4.63%.
v 15 deliveries were made vaginally and 12 by caesarean section,
a ratio of 1: 2.25. Out of three teen-age deliveries, 1 was a caesarean section
in 2017.
v At the exit, 7.4% of their neonates were killed and 29.6% were
followed in the neonatology department.
v In addition, 3.7% of teenage deliveries were followed by
hospitalization and no death was recorded, which is a good prognosis.
