Development Preface This special issue covers topics on environmental management and sustainable development. Access to safe drinking water and sanitation is highly variable around the world. Much progress still remains to be made in infrastructure improvements and poverty reduction. Environmental education also plays a major role in achieving changes in attitudes in society. Furthermore, sustainable development is now considered by organizations and their stakeholders as being the model to follow. An increasing number of companies now act and communicate based on their triple performance (i.e. economic, environmental and social). Original research paper and reviews are presented in the following areas: Waste water treatment and sanitation; Pollution prevention and waste minimization; Environmental education; Sustainable development models; Case studies; Environmental management models; Physico-chemical treatment processes; Treatment and disposal of solid and hazardous waste; Water reuse and recycling of industrial waste This special issue is one the initiatives of the International Center for Environmental Studies and Sustainable Development ( www.ciemades.org) Evens Emmanuel Quisqueya University, Port-au-Prince, Haiti Email : evemm1@yahoo.fr Pierre Schmidt Florida International University (FIU), Miami Florida, USA Email: Pierre.Schmidt@fiu.edu Mattheus Goosen New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), Amman Jordan Email : mgoosen@nyit.edu April 2007 Contents MS # 1 Isolation and Identification of Airborne Fungi that can Cause Asthma: a Case Study from Eastern Puerto Rico C.
