ABSTRACT
This dissertation analyzes and proposes a new mode of solid
household waste management in the Manenga district located in the municipality
of Ngaliema.
It was discussed to study different waste management channels and
actors involved in this management according to the areas of expertise of
each.
A survey of 94 households in the Manenga neighborhood revealed
the nature and quantity of waste produced per person and per household, as well
as the manner in which this waste is stored, collected and disposed.
The results of the survey reveal that 0,64 kg of waste is
produced every day per capita. There is approximately 19 068 kg of waste
generated each day. In the composition of this waste, a large fraction (64,4%)
is putrescible and another significant (21 %) is made of plastic waste.
Management including the recycling of putrescible waste in
compost, as well as the recycling of plastics in paving till and landfilling of
the remainder of non-covered waste is then studied according to all the
technical aspects of engineering.
The results of this study are also mobilized to propose
concrete recommendations to ensure greater efficiency in the management of
solid household waste in the Manenga district.
