SUMMARY
Provincial Hospital of North Kivu is not spared from the real
problem of hospital waste like all other hospitals especially those in Africa.
Therefore, a study of knowledge, attitudes and practices of health personnel we
have in relation to the timely management of waste generated at the hospital.
We asked ourselves the main question
what knowledge,
attitudes and practices of hospital staff in North Kivu on the management of
waste products within the hospital?
This was followed by specific questions
1. The staffs of the hospital have sufficient knowledge on
waste management?
2. The attitude of hospital staff in North
Kivu province it is favourable to the effects of health care waste and the
environment?
3. The personnel practices of the provincial
hospital of North Kivu are really friendly on waste management?
With the
main objective to study the level of knowledge, attitude and practice of
hospital staff in North Kivu province on the management of waste generated in a
hospital
Furthermore, we set specific goals in order to:
1. Determine the level of knowledge of health personnel
at the provincial hospital on waste management in hospitals;
2. identify the attitudes of health personnel at the
provincial hospital facing waste management in hospitals;
3.
identify practices of health personnel at the provincial hospital management
rewarding waste products within the hospital;
The formulation of hypotheses
allowed us to respond to questions we asked ourselves the following:
- The
Hospital staff have a satisfactory knowledge on waste management as sorting,
storage (collection, packaging), the landfill, incineration and landfill are
regularly;
- The hospital staff in North Kivu province would have a
positive attitude to waste: waste storage is not in the halls of care, window
sills, behind the door ...
-The best waste management is not practiced by
the staff of the provincial hospital in North Kivu since the quantification of
waste does not interest anybody in this institution.
The techniques and
methods used allowed us to consult the books, reports, magazines, the website,
and the statements in connection with our study and collect quantitative data.
The data collected were entered and presented as tables with percentage
results.
We have the following results:
Our
first hypothesis is ruled we verify Tables IV, V, VI and IX. The level of
knowledge of staff of the Provincial Hospital of North Kivu is inadequate
management of waste from health care in hospitals.
The
attitude of staff, it is positively cope with the waste of health care to the
provincial hospital of North Kivu. This attitude is noted in Tables No. X, XI,
XII and XIII to say that the second hypothesis is confirmed.
There is poor
waste management practice in health care in this hospital. This leads us to
confirm our third hypothesis, we see in Tables XVI, XVII, XVIII and XIX.
