ABSTRACT
The present research is entitled: Cameroonians
news papers during the period of independence's claim: an historical
approach. Between 1946 and 1957, many newspapers have been created in
our country. During this period, the process of decolonization was stamped by
many claims of independence made by nationalists. Those requests were not
mentioned in the great news papers of this period. The problematic of this work
gives us the possibility to think about the reasons why the news papers of this
period were silent on topics concerning the requests of autonomy made by
nationalists. The present work will be done in the perspective of the
Histiographic School of Annals which claims a «problematic history»
based on the research of the causes of the phenomenon studied. Our study is
based on the problematic presented above, which is the foundation of the
following questions: why those the news papers were not publishing information
concerning the requests of independence made by nationalists? This question was
sustained by four other questions. At the end of this work, the validation of
the secondary hypothesis has given us the reasons why the news papers were not
publishing information concerning the requests of independence made by
nationalists. These reasons are: The support of the news papers created by
French politicians living in Cameroon given to their promoters who were against
independence, the pressure of the colonial administration over the mean of
information created by nationalists and the willing of business men to conserve
the readers of their news papers who were against independence. We can say that
news papers were not publishing information concerning the requests of freedom
made by nationalists because of the support they were giving to actors who were
against independence and because of the oppressions some news papers were
receiving. The present work has been divided into three parts. The first part
exposes generalities; in this part, we present the sociopolitical situation of
Cameroon between 1946 and 1957. We also expose the law who were ruling the
activities of news papers during this period. The second part is the exposition
of information received through our primary and secondary sources. The third
part is concerned by the thematic analysis, the confrontation and
interpretation of sources. In this part, we can discover the different causes
of the non- publication of topics concerning requests of independence made by
nationalists in those news papers.
